The Baptistery of St. John is the oldest Christian monument preserved in Europe to date.
Housed in the fourth century, in the time of Saint Martin and Saint Hilaire, in a Gallo-Roman house Poitiers, baptistery will become a particular building in the fifth century.

At intétieur are to discover such an old baptismal pool octagonal then used for baptism by immersion until the eighth century. Became parish church, the monument was decorated with a beautiful set of Romanesque and Gothic murals in the eleventh-twelfth century and the thirteenth century.
Is also exposed in this place a remarkable collection of Merovingian sarcophagi.
