Probably preceded by two other cathedrals, churches, St. Peter's Cathedral, begun around 1160 in the time of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II, will be completed at the end of the century according to Poitiers.

Exceptional for its size, its church hall form, its flat bed, St. Peter's Cathedral houses many works belonging originally to various churches in the city of Poitiers who suffered from the Revolution.
Note in particular:
- His three novels whose stained glass stained glass window of the crucifixion exceptional by its size and composition (twelfth century).
- The oldest Gothic stalls in Europe (mid thirteenth century).
- The great organ Clicquot who devoted his original mechanics.

Note that the murals behind the St. Peter's Cathedral (middle of the thirteenth century), current release, can be admired.
