Anchored in the heart of the city of Poitiers, this Romanesque church is a masterpiece of Pictave heritage.

Carved in the first half of the twelfth century, the famous façade declines ornamental vocabulary and high quality figurative.
A height of the entrance portal, a frieze relates the episodes of sacred history - from Adam and Eve to the birth of Jesus.
Above, the college of apostles is distributed on both sides of the single window. Finally, a Christ in glory dominates the whole composition, the center of a wheel embellished by a hewn stone diamonds or cones.

On the occasion of an important campaign work between 1992 and 1995, the facade was restored to its original beauty, revealing also the oldest traces of polychrome.
The interior is also dedicated to the color, but it is essentially a mural of the 1850s, with the exception of the vault of the choir, authentically Roman.

All the north side of the church Notre-Dame-la-Grande and his bedside, have a line of chapels fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, built in the architectural of their era style: one can admire beautiful Gothic vaults the late Middle Ages or others of Renaissance, adorned with caissons.
A report in one of the chapels to the right of the choir, a remarkable sculpted group of the sixteenth century polychrome stone, representing the Entombment.
