Rambling around the Hôtel de Ville
The pedestrian streets leading to the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville are filled with restaurants and with shop after shop selling clothes, shoes, books, home decoration products, etc. And to crown the pleasure of strolling in this recently redeveloped pedestrian area, take a break in the sunshine on one of the café terraces of the square.

Craftsmen in Poitiers?
Of course, here for hundreds of years! From candle-making to pastry-making, a range of ancestral know-how to discover.
The candle-making workshop called «Au Flambeau d’Argent» is part of the craft heritage of Poitiers. Installed here in 1735, it is run today by François Guédon, one of the last wax chandlers in France. The Fabrique François Frères has designed, sold and restored umbrellas for four generations. A stringed-instrument workshop has served musicians for the past 20 years. Feeling peckish? The Maison Rannou-Metivier proposes a snack of its famous traditional macarons.
The city of Poitiers and its partners seek to sustain these craft enterprises and contribute to the rediscovery of ancient crafts. The Nocturnes des Métiers d’Arts (Art crafts evening market) and the pottery market are favourite haunts of artisans and the city’s inhabitants.
