Built from 1529 by René Berthelot, mayor of the city, Berthelot Hotel is one of the first Renaissance buildings in Poitiers.
Among the Italianate carved decoration, we see portraits medallions of the owner and his wife, and the coat of arms of Berthelot.
Acquired in 1959 by the University of Poitiers, the building now houses the Centre for the Study of Higher Medieval Civilization.
