The Holy Cross museum, built in 1974, is the first museum of Poitou-Charentes for the richness of its art and archeology collections.

Regional Prehistory is represented with an exceptional collection of engravings of the Cave of the March (located in Lussac-les-Châteaux). The ancient Gallo-Roman introduces the visitor to the city of Pictones under the protective gaze of Athena marble statue grade of the 1st century AD. BC Beautiful carved sarcophagi testify to the art of Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages. A series of sculptures recalls the extraordinary influence of the novels workshops in Poitou.

The fine arts route goes from the 14th century to contemporary art. The major artistic movements of the 19th century (neoclassicism, Orientalism, Ingrisme, symbolism) invite visitors to the remarkable set of seven sculptures of Camille Claudel. The modern art of the early 20th century is brilliantly illustrated by paintings of Mondrian, Bonnard, Vuillard, Sisley, Marquet ...

The Sainte-Croix Museum continues its policy of exchanges and partnerships with national and territorial museums to host regular "guest of a new museum" and promote the discovery of works related to museum collections of Poitiers.
It provides an overview of Goethe's Faust around the character of Marguerite, with three works from museums of Poitiers, Orléans and Cognac, in a theatrical scenography.

The Sainte-Croix Museum celebrates two recent exceptional gifts:a Madonna and Child and Saint Joseph of the late Middle Ages, their restoration has revealed a beautiful quality of execution, without comparison in the area to the late 15th century. Two works to discover new insights artistic exchanges at a crossroads between the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
